Job Description
Since 2022, McAllister Towing LNG Services, LLC (“McAllister”) has served as the technical manager for the Polaris New Energy LNG bunkering operation in Florida. McAllister operates the Articulated Tug Barge (ATB) POLARIS/CLEAN CANAVERAL for Polaris New Energy. The tug POLARIS is a 4,000-horsepower tug fitted with a JAK-400 coupling system. It is paired with the barge CLEAN CANAVERAL, which has a 5,500 cbm capacity. Polaris New Energy constructed the ATB for coastwise transportation of LNG and to deliver LNG as a clean maritime transportation fuel.
Position: Ordinary Seaman (OS)
Reports to:
- The Captain at all times
- The Officer in Charge of Navigation when on duty
Supervises:
- None
Description of Duties:
- Serve as lookout
- Handle lines/wires to and from other vessels or structures during operations as directed by the Officer in Charge of the Navigation Watch
- Tend mooring lines
- Perform assigned firefighting, man overboard, and abandon ship duties as listed on the Station Bill
- Handle fuel, lube oil, and water transfer hoses under the direction of the Person in Charge (PIC)
- Perform cleaning and maintenance as assigned by the Captain
- Maintain personal hygiene, a clean stateroom, and participate with the crew to keep public spaces clean
- Project a positive company image and maintain professional, amicable relationships with customers, pilots, terminal personnel, and the public
- Other duties as assigned by the Captain
Minimum Requirements:
- Current U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential with Ordinary Seaman (OS) rating
- STCW Certification (offshore towing only)
- Valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Pass pre-employment drug test and physical
- Prior deck experience, preferably aboard a commercial vessel (experience aboard non-commercial vessels may be accepted on a case-by-case basis)
Physical Requirements:
- Adequate vision (no color blindness or uncorrectable impairment)
- Adequate hearing
- Ability to walk and stand on wet surfaces for extended periods
- Capable of handling heavy lines and operating heavy machinery
- Ability to climb a 12-foot ladder without assistance
- Ability to hoist oneself over a 12-inch wide, 6-foot high barrier
- Sufficient strength to:
- Lift 100 lbs. from deck to waist level
- Lift 50 lbs. from deck to shoulder level
- Lift 35 lbs. from deck to overhead
- Pull (drag) 120 lbs. at least 20 feet
